ABSTRACT

This paper examines the nexus between employee’s motivation and organizational performance, using some selected banks in Akure metropolis. The objectives are: to investigate which motivational packages influence employees’ performance and to assess the influence of motivational packages on the corporate performance. Survey research design which allows the use of questionnaire was utilized to obtain information from the employees of the selected banks. Simple random sampling technique was used to carry out the study in four banks namely, First Bank Nigeria Plc, Heritage Bank Plc, Eco Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc. Spearman Rank Order Correlation was employed to test the hypotheses. This study concludes that there is significant relationship between employee’s motivation and organizational performance. The finding shows the results of Spearman rank order correlation analysis for relationship between motivational packages and employee performance. The correlation coefficient for the variables was 0.315. The value indicates a weak but positive relationship between motivational packages and employee performance. Since correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (1-tailed) for this research and the significance probability value is less than 0.01 (i.e. 0.007<0.01). The finding further shows the relationship between motivational packages and banks’ performance. The correlation coefficient for the variables was 0.315. The value indicates a weak but positive relationship between motivational packages and banks’ performance. The value is significant since correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (1-tailed) for this research and the significance probability value for the relationship is less than 0.01 (i.e. 0.007<0.01).The study therefore recommends that adequate motivational packages should be given to the employees in the banks on a regular basis as these will not only prompt them to give out their best to their, but will also enhance their work outputs for the banks.

Using the social networks attract a lot of advantages and future progress to the world development. Despite the fact that the technology is bringing more global innovations to our world, there is still a high level of ignorance and inability to identify and understand the specific purpose of which social network aims to achieve, and to operate within the confines of their values in usage, especially when it comes to applying it in socialization and as effective learning material. This research work is conceived to unravel the importance of social network in today’s socialization, enhancing knowledge and promoting understanding of what social network is meant to afford and encourage in its effective use in order to be benefited socially and in its use as academic learning material.

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the topic of stress, stressor and stress management. Their search is theoretically based using the secondary sources of data to accomplish the search objective. Effort was made to differentiate between stress and stressor. While stress according to the authors is the feeling we have about a situation, condition, environment, work, and humans we have encountered; those things which causes stress, is the stressor. Theories relating to stress were discussed which are the environmental stress perspective, the psychological stress perspective, and the biological stress perspective. The theories were propounded by Cohen, et al., in 1995. Stress is the most undesirable condition of life which everyone detests or abhorred and would do all that is humanly possible to avoid it. Some push factors of stress were enumerated and what organization could do to reduce stress amongst its employees was also discussed by the authors. Their search reveals that enough hours of sleep is important to all humans to control stress and in order to recreate the stressed body. One should not be too busy to deny himself of the needed relaxation and exercising for health promotion. Those at the position of higher level of authority should learn to reduce stress on their subordinates in workplace with a view to creating friendly atmosphere and increase in productivity of the organization.

ABSTRACT

This study highlights the socio-cultural barriers to rural women’s empowerment in North-Western Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted. The study utilized mainly primary data obtained through the administration of structured questionnaire, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The analysis of data using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Logit Regression) with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 reveals that family restriction on doing certain jobs, restriction on female education, early marriages and domestic work burden are the main barriers to rural women empowerment. On the other hand, male-centric barriers to rural women empowerment, Purdha(veiling), misinterpretation of religious injunctions, dependence on males, discrimination in family assets, restrictions on women’s mobility, prevalence of gender discrimination in economic sector and condemnation of mixing boys and girls were rejected as socio-cultural barriers to rural women empowerment. Based on the findings, it is recommended that government at all levels should ensure improved gender equality in access to basic services (schools, health care, child care) in rural areas, by investing in their supply (infrastructure, staff, etc.) so as to reduce women’s vulnerability and increase their capacity to access more remunerative jobs and opportunities. It is equally recommended that efforts to expand rural women’s access to science, technical education, mobile phones, computers, and other information and communication technologies should be of utmost priority.

ABSTRACT

Household economic strategies has been identified as crucial in healthcare-seeking behaviour; yet little has been done to examine how household economic strategies predispose rural dwellers to healthcare challenges. Inspite of policies and programmes designed to improve healthcare-seeking behaviour of rural dwellers; they are yet to be secured health wise. This study investigated household production and consumption strategies and their implications for choice and utilization of healthcare resources. Through qualitative and descriptive ethnography, Key Informant Interview (KII), Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and the textual analysis of documents, our study seeks to establish that production and consumption strategies are principles that make household economic activities more tasking and complex; and also make economic relationships intricate in rural Akoko communities. It therefore limits available time to seek quality western healthcare, thus making people rely more on traditional healthcare and home remedies. Rural Akoko people preferred traditional healthcare and home remedies which allow them have more time for household economic activities. Rural Akoko people devoted more attention to work than healthcare. They seek western healthcare at advanced stages of illnesses, resulting in various health and healthcare insecurities. The production and consumption strategies adopted in the household economic system of rural Akoko communities have a strong influence in determining the choice and utilization of healthcare resources. The interface between household economic strategies and healthcare-seeking behaviour in rural communities therefore deserves more attention in order to aid the formulation of policy for health interventions. This will reduce health and healthcare insecurities in rural communities.
