ABSTRACT

Friendship is a kind of relationship that has been nurtured since time immemorial, it is something that is found in every society and culture; it is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people, a bond that is usually never broken. The idea of friendship can best be thought of as two people side by side looking forward towards a common goal, or a relationship between two people who like each other and enjoy each other’s companion.  At a higher dimension and more interesting level, the idea of friendship contains not only the component of association but also that of loyalty; the highest level of friendship contains the components of association and loyalty along with affection, this would greatly help in the emotional , psychological, and social development of the individual. However, any relationship needs constant nurturing and development from all the people that involved in one ; this means, friendship cannot survive if one person makes all the efforts to sustain it without any mutual recognition from others, because both positive and negative experiences refine the personality of the individual, it is of paramount essentiality that we find friends who are compatible with our aims and goals in life and that concerted and mutual effort should be made to sustain it.

ABSTRACT

No country can develop and grow politically without peaceful co-existence among its population. It is our experience that sustainable development is tied to the advancement of lasting peace and political stability. Before peace can be said to exist anywhere, the citizens must be free from all forms of violence, be it political, economic, social or religious. We are convinced that this is the kind of peace Nigeria wants. Violence not only destroys lives, but properties are damaged. So, investing in peace, stability and accountable governance is fundamental to long term development and prosperity. Our country Nigeria is known for political instability, violence, corruption, bad governance, etc. The effect of political instability on the security of communities is evident, as societies, which are politically unstable are experiencing unrest and security charges. Man, being political by nature, seeks to live in an environment where security, stability and harmony are maintained. In (Acts 24:2),  Emperor Caesar Augustus of Rome was able to restore order and peace which lasted for about two hundred years, which is referred to as the “Pax Romana” meaning Roman peace. With this peace, the empire excelled and the Roman government was able to bring about a general improvement in the living conditions of the people. So, if you and I start today to keep and maintain peace in our own little corner, then the country at large will have peace. ”For a stitch in time saves nine”. Sustainable development, if it is to take hold and flourish needs peace, stability and the firm foundation provided by human rights. Is it possible to have political stability and sustainable development without peace? The paper used critical analytic method in examining challenges of political stability and bad governance as a bane of underdevelopment

ABSTRACT

Herders and farmers conflict exists in all the geopolitical zones of the country. The problem can easily be explained within the context of ecological factors and of migrations as well as the search for grazing field by the Fulani Herdsmen and consequently due to climate change. The increasing shortage in food production  the state has remain a serious problem affecting Doma local government and Nasarawa state in general as farmers could not grow food crops again due to the fear of the herders destructive nature. The purpose of the study is to ascertain the effects of Herders/Famers conflict on food production in Nasarawa State. The research design used is descriptive survey; data were collected by the administration of questionnaire to the respondent in the sampled population (300) and were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Findings revealed that herders and farmers conflict has had far reaching consequences in terms, of dimension and loss of lives and properties and the strain it has had on food production. The study concludes that prevalence of herders and farmers crises has serious implication for the development of the community in the area of food production. The study therefore recommend among others that the local government should create a grazing field for cattles to avoid herders encroaching into cultivated farm land due to lack of grazing field and farmers should observe earmarked grazing land in the course of farming.

Historically, the lake has never dried until recently, in years less than a decade. It has frequently continued to dry year after year since the first incidence. This study was done purposely to understand the complex causes of drying up of the lake as well as its impacts on the community. The paper focuses solely on the perceptions of the local community as well as believes from them about the problems causing that, and to draw conclusions and provide possible suggestions. The major problems are excessive sand deposit into the lake by erosion, too much human consumption through irrigation and other means, pollution of the water, and little rain water input. It was interesting to understand that the community perceives the changes in rainfall and average temperature.
