Adopting the principles of Quantitative Approach to collect numeric data, the study sampled 121 professional librarians from six academic libraries and a returned rate of 91 (75.2%) was used for the analysis using Descriptive and Inferential Statistics. The study revealed the major reasons for KM practice as the need to improved library services and customer satisfaction (3.97 mean marks) and identify expertise among librarians to tap and use initiatives (3.84). The findings explored strategies employed by professional librarians in practicing KM as rewarding the leadership and restructuring skill competencies strategy (2.67), adoption of social media for staff/user interaction and digitization strategy (3.86), Knowledge networking and sharing strategy. The challenges confronting KM practices include insufficient tools and technologies, Lack of centralized policy for KM, intellectual challenge of managing tacit knowledge and cultural challenge of capturing and sharing knowledge. The Linear Regression Analysis shows a very strong correlation between Strategies Adopted and the Reasons for practicing KM in enhancing effective service delivery in academic libraries (r=0.892 p value<.05). The study recommended the establishment of well-written KM policies and organizing sensitization workshops.

In the study the questionnaires titled Information Consciousness Questionnaire (ICQ) and Student Academic Achievement Test (SAT) was used to gather the necessary information from the 150 respondents drawn from the secondary schools in the local government area. Three research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated to pilot the study. The data gather from the respondents were analysed using simple percentage frequent count and inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical tools. The findings shows that that Students are very conscious of information from their teachers and the textbooks they used at school for their academic achievement while their level of information consciousness on internet and library were very low. Secondly, The sources of information available to secondary school students was considered to be Instructional Materials while Teachers, Textbook are considered to be very available but Library and Internet almost not available. Thirdly, the purpose of seeking information by students is for academic success, learning purpose and knowledge acquisition among others. Fourthly, there is a positive significant relationship between level of information consciousness and students academic achievement (r= .875, p<.05). Finally, there is a strong positive significant relationship between student’s information consciousness and academic achievement (r= .875, p<.05).this implies that information consciousness influence the academic achievement positively. Base on the findings above the study recommended that; the school administrator should maintain the existing information sources they have and make request to the government for the provisions of these sources. Two research questions were raised and one hypothesis was formulated and tested. The self-structured questionnaire Schooling Experience questionnaire (SEQ) and achievement test on English and mathematics was used to elicit data from the respondents. The descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the demographic variables and research questions while inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical tools was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Statistically the null hypotheses tested was rejected, hence the independent variables have significant influence on senior secondary school students academic achievement. The result revealed that  the academic achievement of senior secondary school students in Lagos State is on averagely moderate, though their achievement in English Studies was poor but the achievement in Mathematics was high also there is a moderate significant relationship between schooling experience and senior secondary school student academic achievement (r =.365, p<0.05). Base on the findings, the study recommended that Schooling experience of the senior secondary school student in term of punctuality and attendance should be improved so as to have a very high academic achievement, the stockholders should ensure that students are punctual to school so as to increase the level of student academic performance in Lagos state.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the effect of collegial teaching strategy on academic performance and retention of science concepts among science education students in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto Nigeria. The study adopted quasi experimental and control groups design involving pre-test, posttest and post post-test to determine retention level. The two groups involved in the study were pre-tested, treated, post tested and post post-tested for retention purpose. One hundred level students of Science and Vocational Education Department are the population of this study totaling eight hundred and sixty-seven (867). Samples of eighty students were selected for the study using convenient sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection was multiple choices Performance Test on Science, Technology and Mathematics (PTSTM). Items in the instrument were obtained from the content of the course SED 101- Introduction to Science, Technology and Mathematics. Senior Lecturers with PhD in Science Education validated the instrument and reliability index of 0.74 was obtained using split-half method. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used first to determine the correlations of the two halves before Brown Prophesy was used to determine the reliability of the full instrument. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test analysis at 0.05 level of significance. Result from findings showed that there is significant difference between the academic performance of students in experimental and control groups in favor of experimental group. No significant difference between the academic performance of male and female students in experimental group was observed while in the post post-test for retention, significant difference between the academic performance of students in experimental and control groups in favor of experimental group was found.  On the ground of the findings the research recommends among others that Collegial teaching strategy should be use at universities as an instrument for meaningful and effective learning of science and its related fields as well as improvement of student’s performance and retention in those fields.
