ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this research is to find effective way through which Entrepreneurship can take it rightful place in the socio-economic economic development of Nigeria. It is intended to equip policymakers with implementable recommendations to create the most conducive and supportive environment for entrepreneurs to thrive. People must choose to leave the mentality of the corporate hierarchy to create independence economic base and chose the autonomy that owing a business offers. This study discovered that the impacts the entrepreneurship will have on the nation’s economy goes far beyond their numbers. However, there must be a resurgence of the entrepreneurial spirit to spearheading this most significant economic development in recent business history all around the world. These heroes of the new economy are introducing innovative products and services, pushing back technological frontiers, creating new jobs, opening foreign markets, and in the process, will sparkle the economy. On the other hand, government must create and implement effective policies and enabling environment to drive home this all important phenomenon in the development of our economy. In Nigeria, it suffice to say that massive unemployment as a result of irregular government policies and corruption, massive downsizing campaigns in public service and large corporations, dramatically cutting the number of managers and workers on their payroll had meted untold hardship on citizenry and on our economy. One casualty of this downsizing has been the long-standing notion of job security in government and large corporations, which all but destroyed the concept of loyalty and has made workers much more mobile. This research having under study the level of entrepreneurship in Nigeria system thereby proffer a solution to ameliorate the situation and embed this concept that is the bedrock of developed economy into our own economic system.

ABSTRACT

This study is an economic analysis of Dutch disease in Nigeria from 1981-2014 adopting the co-integration regression of fully modified ordinary least squares (FM-OLS) and canonical co-integration regression (CCR) as the modeling approach. To establish the long-run convergence of the variables in the model even though they diverge in the short-run, we apply the bounds test of co-integration which reveals a co-integrating relationship among the variable. The results of the study establish the existence of Dutch disease in Nigeria within the study period. The study recommends both vertical and horizontal linkages of the oil and gas sector for effective and efficient application of oil revenue that will reverse the current Dutch disease trend in the economy. These recommendations arise from the need to efficiently utilize the available oil proceeds, given the exhaustible nature of oil resource.

ABSTRACT

Corruption in Nigeria has deeply entrenched/ingrained in the national ethics, politics, civil society, public and private sectors and has been deeply permeated by a pervasive and debilitating culture so much that it is best regarded as been institutionalized, until the recent fight against it. The longtime reign of corruption in the country has impacted negatively on economic growth and has decayed or deteriorated our cultural values in the state. This study examined the impact of corruption on economic growth and cultural values in Nigeria situating the need for value re-orientation. The negative impact of corruption on economic growth and the decaying standard of Nigerian cultural values have necessitated the need for value re-orientation in order to bring redemption to the country’s national character and image. The study recommends the effective use of anti-corruption agencies. In the same vein, there should be re-orientation process in the education system of the country while the government should adequately fund the system.
